1. Is valuation (moving insurance) necessary?
It is highly recommended. Although we will take every necessary precaution to protect your items, unexpected damages can occur, and it is important to make sure that your possessions are protected. The DOT mandates all moving companies to provide basic limited coverage for free, but it is highly recommend that you purchase additional full value/replacement insurance.
2. I have few prized possessions that need to be treated with extra care?
As far as money, jewelry and other valuables as such; you will need to carry them with you. By law, we cannot move them. As for larger items - such as art, antiques, musical instruments, special collections, or other items of great personal meaning and value - point these items out to your sales person so he can prepare the movers well in advance. Also, prior to the starting of your move, make sure to preform a walk-through with your foremen. point these items to him, so he can take necessary steps to ensure for their proper care. Highly important - For items of specific values, a special insurance need to be purchased by you, prior to moving day.
3. How do I get boxes and moving supplies ahead of my move date?
You can buy moving supplies online, or at Home Depot, Lowe's, Box Brothers, etc. Many of them will deliver to your door, often times with no delivery fee (minimum purchase required).
4. Do I need to wrap my furniture items?
Yes, furniture cannot travel across country (an average of 2700 miles) without being well wrapped and protected. You have 2 options:
A. Do it yourself, but make sure to watch some online packing video's first.
B. Let our movers do it for you. Our crews always have materials on hand and can take care of it for you on the day of your move.
5. What if I haven't finished packing by my scheduled moving day?
If you haven't finished packing by moving day, your movers can assist you in finishing packing. however, it is important to understand that this service will add to the total cost of your move.
6. Can I leave clothing in my dresser drawers?
No. It is highly important to empty drawers & cabinets of all items. Furniture is not designed to be moved with the extra weight. Emptying all drawers & cabinets makes the moving process safer and help preventing damages to your furniture during transit.
7. How do I prepare my appliances/TV for the move?
Before our movers arrive, you should arrange for the appropriate professionals to disconnect your appliances from any electric, gas, or water connection. Dismount any wall/floor installations (TV brackets, etc.) Make sure to empty your dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator, washing machine/dryer, etc.
8. How will the movers know what items to take and what to leave behind?
When the movers first arrive at the pick up location, they will do a walk through, accompanied by you, to confirm which items are going and which are not. Prior to their arrival, in order to prevent confusion, we suggest you put post-it notes on the items, marking which are staying and which are going.
9. Will you move my plants?
No. We do not transport live plants on cross country moves.
10. Are there any items that you cannot move?
All licensed movers, are not allowed to move hazardous or combustible items such as propane tanks, firearms, ammunition, paint, aerosols, etc. Also, if a certain item requires a very specific set of skills which we do not possess, we might refuse moving it.
11. How can I ensure that my belongings end up in the correct room during delivery?
While packing, mark all of your boxes clearly with the designated room name - label boxes on all sides. On delivery day, your movers will work closely with you to make sure each box ends up in the correct room.
12. Parking Space Reservation - How Does It Work?
Please do your best to reserve a parking space for our truck on move day (approx. 35ft.+), contact your local city hall for more info (NYC does not offer parking reservation permits). If a proper parking spot will not be available on move day, our driver will discuss alternative options with you. If a parking citation is issued, CNYX is to be reimbursed by the customer.
