Common Moving Tips
Understanding common moving mistakes can help you avoid these same mistakes during your long distance move.
Research moving companies – This is extremely important! Whether you plan to hire a professional moving company, or rent a moving truck for a DIY move. Not researching moving companies could see your belongings in the wrong hands. Avoid this mistake and avoid being part of a moving scam.
Have enough time to pack – Not allocating enough time to pack for a long distance move is a common mistake. Ideally, and depending on size of the move, start at least 8 weeks before your move date. Another common packing mistake is packing moving boxes to heavy.
Ask questions - A very common mistake when moving, is not asking all the questions you would like answers to. There is a lot to know about long distance moving, if you’re unsure about anything, need additional information, or just have questions, ask! You need to understand every aspect of your move.
Labeling boxes – Take inventory of your items and know what’s in each box and which room it goes in. This is vital and will help both you and the movers.
Insurance – Not getting the right moving insurance, or not having insurance, is a common moving mistake. Reputable moving companies do their best to deliver items undamaged. However, it does occasionally happen. Knowing you’re covered with the right insurance will put your mind at ease.
