Q: Can we leave our drawers or cabinets full of items?
A: Items ought to be removed from your drawers and cabinets prior to the move, in order to prevent any damage to the furniture item, which may result from difficulty in handling the item and stress of extra weight during the journey to your destination.

Q: If after I sign my estimate, I decide to remove some items from my list, do I still have to pay the price I was given?
A: The price you pay is based on the amount of volume you have at the end of the loading process, so you are not locked into the price. As you will note on your estimate, it states clearly that you will pay the price guarantee or the actual size of your shipment, whichever is lower. If you like, we are always happy to re-calculate your estimate as you add and subtract items.

Q: Will you assemble or disassemble any of my furniture items? OR Will you take apart and put back together any of my furniture?
A: California New York Express Moving will help you with the basic breaking down and reassembly of typical in-house items such as tables or beds. If there are things that need more intricate disassembly or reassembly, it will be the responsibility of the customer to arrange that kind of a service by an outside company.

Q: How do I know that your truck will fit on my street?
A: The matter depends on the circumstance. Most streets have the necessary room for our trucks to get in and situate themselves. In some instances, you may be required by the city or police department to get a permit. If you are unsure, you can always ask your building manager, neighbors, or even your real estate agent who will most likely know the answer. Please keep in mind that providing adequate parking for the truck is your responsibility. In some cases, a "shuttle truck" is needed and will be provided at an additional charge.

Q: What if I cannot be present at the time of delivery?
A: Assuming we are already aware of this fact, you will have already filled out a "Third Party Authorization Form", which gives someone else the right to act on your behalf, when we arrive to deliver your items.

Q: I would like to receive my items as soon as possible, but I am not sure where I am going yet. Will you still be able to send my things?
A: The deciding factor is an operating radius of 35 miles out from one of our local branches. If you are within those 35 miles, we will be able to help you with this matter. If we do not have a delivery address for you by the time your shipment arrives, you will be charged what is called a "storage at destination" fee. Furthermore, if your delivery will be within a distance of between 35 and 200 miles from one of our branches, there will be a travel charge applied to your move as well.

Q: I cannot take time off of work. Is there any way that I can request a delivery over the weekend only and if so, will the delivery time still be between seven and fourteen days?
A: We would have to check with our long distance dispatcher and see if we can accommodate you within those constraints without having to charge you additional fees. Assuming that we would not be able to help with this matter, the other option we can provide our customers is a guaranteed delivery date service, which can get your items delivered within an approximate window of 10 calendar days.

Q: Does Cross Country Moving Specialists ship cars?
A: Unfortunately we do not ship any vehicles. We have a company that specializes in vehicle shipping to that for us. The type of vans that are used to ship household goods are not designed to house vehicles, which makes it a lot less safe to ship a vehicle that way, not to mention more expensive. In most cases, van line companies usually sub-contract to car shippers in order to ship a car. Another drawback to van lines is that they take much longer to deliver the car and charge more for the job, because of their limitations. If you do a little homework you will find that it is best to leave the transporting of vehicles to the experts. The company we work with and recommend to our customers is Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS).
They can be reached at: (800) 826-1083 or through their website at:

Q: How do you calculate a cubic foot and how do you convert cubic feet to weight?
A: A cubic foot has three measurements and could be compared to square object that is one foot in length on all sides. Cubic feet are used to measure the volume of an item. In most cases one would multiply the length times the width times the height of an object in order to get its volume. In order to convert cubic feet to weight, you would simply multiply the cubic foot value you have by 7 pounds. This ratio is dictated by the Federal Highway Administration. According to the Federal Highway Administration, the transportation costs of a move can be figured out either in weight OR in cubic feet and the conversion rate is 7 pounds per cubic foot. The following is a list of things that ought to be taken into consideration when comparing a rate that is based on weight vs. cubic feet:

1. Accuracy of the Estimate - it is extremely unreasonable and impractical to weigh every piece of furniture in your home, as opposed to simply taking the 3 measurements of the item and being done with it. The volume of an item can be measured accurately, quickly and precisely, thereby making the estimate more accurate.

2. How Easy is it To Confirm - in order for a customer to confirm the weight of their shipment, the customer must travel twice to the weigh station and physically be present while the weighing is taking place; highly inconvenient. In order to confirm the volume of their shipment, the customer only needs to look inside the truck and use the line markers to calculate the volume.

Q: Is this a binding estimate?
A: Yes! It is our mission to make sure that you know exactly what you are going to pay, which is why Cross Country Moving Specialists' estimates come with a price guarantee right from the start.

Top

Q: What is a fuel surcharge?
A: Many, if not most of the moving companies out there include a fuel charge when providing an estimate. This charge fluctuates because the price of fuel does the same on a regular basis. By adding the fuel costs in a separate column from the estimate, we are able to adjust this rate according to current market rates.

Q: Will I be seeing your company driver during the pick up and or delivery of my things?
A: You will see our driver at the time of your delivery. Being that we are a "full service company", you will be dealing with our employees from the beginning to the end of your move process.
