Cutting Your Moving Expenses Part 2

If you're looking to save money on your move, here are some ways to cut expenses during a long distance moving project.

Never underestimate the power of the review when shopping for a moving company, as a poorly reviewed company can cost extra in the end. Word of mouth is always more beneficial than any sales pitch, because now you are dealing with real people and real experiences.

Customers do not hesitate when reviewing a poor experience. Likewise, a good moving experience means people will tell their friends. A good moving business will work hard to make sure their reputation is unsullied.

Bargain packing supplies can be had by simply visiting your local supermarket or department store and asking if they have any boxes you can have. Just make sure they are clean and sturdy enough to handle your needs.

Save up on old newspapers or ask your neighbor to donate theirs to the cause. Newspaper is as good as bubble wrap when it comes to protecting items during a move. You can also pick up secondhand packing materials online. Some friends may have leftover materials at their disposal after a move.

Be flexible on your moving date. Some movers charge less for given dates, while others may be able to combine moves with someone else going the same direction. It works out well for all parties involved.

Check your calendar and plan accordingly. Many cross country movers charge more in the summertime, on weekends, during holidays, and at the beginning or end of each month, simply because their workload increases. See if prices fluctuate depending on your time frame for getting this done, and you may keep another few bucks in your pocket as a result.

Long distance moving will be an expensive endeavor, no two ways about it. But handled correctly, you can still manage to get this done in a fiscally responsible manner.
