The Moving Day
Today is the day you have been planning for in the last two month. If you followed all the steps of this moving guide, you are absolutely ready to move. This part of the guide will instruct you and provide important tips for the move day.
Working With You Moving Company
The most important thing is to be present when your movers arrive. If you cannot to be present while the movers are packing and loading your household content, designate a friend or family member to help out and make decisions in your absence.
Work with your chosen representative and confirm that this person knows exactly what to do up to the smallest detail of your move. This person will be asked to sign documents obligating you to charges and authorizing the movers to move your items.
Be sure to let the moving company's representative know who is "running the show" for you. Review all paper work and details before your mover departs with your content. Verify that all the details are correct, that the price is as you were quoted for, and that the inventory list is complete and clear.
Accompany the job manager (aka the foreman) as he or she inspects your content for existing damages. Any found damages along with a detailed description of your goods at the time of loading will appear on the inventory and will be used in case of an insurance damage claim.
Leaving Your Old Residence
Stay home until the last item is loaded to the moving truck. Make a final inspection before the moving team leaves. Make sure that everything was loaded and that the movers did not leave anything behind.
Leave your phone connected throughout the moving day. After the movers leave, pack your phone in one of your suitcases for easy access when you arrive to your new home.
Clean your home and remove all debris that is left behind. While doing so, take another look in every room to verify that you did not forget anything. Be sure to inspect the attic, garage, crawl spaces, and all hidden locations.
Verify that all utilities have been disconnected. If you asked your utilities providers to disconnect your home only a day after you leave, make sure that all water, electricity, and gas sources are off.
Meet with the new owner of your home or real estate agent to a final walk through the property. Provide the new owner or real estate agent with keys, alarm codes and garage door remote controls.
