Here are some moving tips for residential customers to ensure they are well-prepared before Barstow’s moving trucks arrive:
Residential Moves
- In the living room, empty the cabinets, coffee table and side tables. Unplug the stereo, VCR, TV and other electrical equipment and pack them in boxes. Pack all lamps and lampshades in boxes, too, as well as pictures and plastic-framed mirrors.
- In the kitchen, make sure to empty the dishwasher, refrigerator and freezer and pack the microwave dish.
- In the dining room, remove the China Cabinet’s shelves and pack the glass shelves. Remove the Cabinet’s tabs and other hardware.
- In the bedroom, removing beddings and disassemble cribs and bunk beds. Remove mirrors from vanity tables and dressers. Drain and disassemble all waterbeds. Wardrobe boxes should be packed as early as possible.
- In the laundry room, make sure all washing is done the day before the moving truck arrives and disconnect the washing machine and dryer.
- In the garage, empty trash cans and clean rafters. Small gardening tools can be loaded onto trash cans.
- In the backyard, make sure to discard the charcoal from the barbeque grill and disassemble any play equipment like swing sets.
- All boxes should be marked on the sides with the name of the item/s inside and which room it will go to at the new residence.
- Make sure not to over pack the boxes to protect belongings and tape the boxes from top to bottom.
Inventory Check
It is standard procedure for long distance movers like Barstow Transfer and Storage to do an inventory of all the items to be transported. The driver or the professional mover will create the inventory on the move day when the items are loaded into the moving truck. Each item is listed and their condition is taken note of.
At the customer’s destination, the customer will be asked to check the items as they are being loaded off the truck to ensure there are no damaged or missing items. After the unloading has been completed, the customer will sign the inventory which will serve as a record of the customer’s acceptance of accurate inventory.
Inventories are used to support any claims of damage or loss against a moving company. That is why customers are strongly advised to be present during the loading and unloading of their belongings so they can ensure complete and accurate inventory.
