Moving 101: Glossary of Moving Terms - W

Warehouse Handling
An additional charge applicable each time storage-in-transit (SIT) service is provided. This charge compensates the mover for the physical placement and removal of items within the warehouse.

Warehouse storage is often referred to storage in a large scale commercial building. Warehouse storage facilities are usually equipped with loading docks to allow easy access and to easily load and unload trucks. If your mover utilizes a warehouse for storage, make sure that the facility is climate controlled and that it is safely guarded and protected.

Weather Contingency
This term is commonly used by moving companies to indicate weather limitation on the day of the move. While some moving companies perform scheduled moves in any weather conditions, some might postpone a move if weather conditions do not allow safely loading or unloading of your items.

Wrapping Services
Wrapping services are sometimes known as partial packing services. This term is used to separate packing services from a different service in which large items such as furniture are wrapped in moving pads to protect them while in transit.

Most moving companies offer free wrapping services for local moves. However, for long distance moves, wrapping services are provided for an additional fee, determined by the size of the move.
